ABOUT US

San Zeno di Montagna is considered “a balcony over Lake Garda”. It is located on the western slopes of Mount Baldo and winds with its old streets for several kilometers at an average altitude of 600 meters. San Zeno di Montagna offers natural beauty, ranging from the wide blue waters of the Lake, the olive groves and the peaks of the Alpine foothills on the north. San Zeno di Montagna offers a lot of accommodation options to its guests: hotels, apartments, holiday farms, B & B and camping. The most important building in historical terms is Palazzo Ca’ Montagna. He is named after the family who built it: the “Montagnas”. They were land owners here and also had family ties with the Della Scala family in Verona.

Even the name of the town has changed over the centuries. Once it was called Montagna di Monte Baldo. Only at the beginning of the nineteenth century the town changed its name from Montagna di Monte Baldo to San Zeno di Montagna in honor of the saint who became its patron. In San Zeno di Montagna you can taste the typical products of Mount Baldo: meats and cheeses, herbs from Mount Baldo which gladden the restaurant menus in the spring, while autumn is dedicated to the menu based on DOP chestnuts, truffles and mushrooms. During this period, the chestnut soup is the typical local dish.
Mount Baldo is also known as “Hortus Europae” because during the ice Age, the summit of Mount Baldo sticked out of the ice. Therefore the flora and fauna which elsewhere became extinct, found there a place of refuge. Here endemic floral species, especially orchids, grew and are named today with the adjective “baldensis”.
The municipality of San Zeno di Montagna is ideal for the practice of many sports and especially for trekking and mountain biking. From spring to autumn the weather is mild and stimulating. Tourists of all ages, families and sports enthusiasts can hike and discover hidden corners in the many hamlets here, light and just running paths commit by shady pine groves or up to the peaks of Mount Baldo in more challenging excursions. The relaxing atmosphere, the green of nature and the breathtaking views are the framework for these days outdoors.
